Jackie creates mesmeric music using her vibraphone and looper. Chloe creates immersive patterns by dropping different coloured paints onto a thickened watery surface. Chloe\u2019s marbling responds to Jackie\u2019s music and vice versa, resulting in immersive video projections and mesmeric vibraphone soundscapes. This dialogical practice sparks fresh associations between perceptions of lived experience and inspires the emotions connected with present-centred consciousness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cleanse: Music Meets Art at Crossness Pumping Station\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ipG7TegW8d8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em><strong>Cleanse: Music Meets Art at Crossness Pumping Station<\/strong><\/em> was a night of live music in dialogue with live art-making at Crossness Pumping Station in London. It was organised by Chloe and Jackie and funded through the Thamesmead Community Fund from The London Community Foundation. As Crossness Pumping Station played a crucial role in Victorian London\u2019s sewage system, Chloe and Jackie asked artists and musicians to respond to the themes of purification, cleanliness and morality. Harpist Anna Phillips and visual artist Curtis Donovan explored purity of sound and geometry while vocalist J Cocoa and painter Charly Helyar created an illuminated composition of political gesture. For their part, Vibin n Marblin created a communal purification ritual critiquing the contemporary wellness industry. &#8220;Aspirational&#8221; TikTok videos promoting #cleangirlaesthetic were projected alongside footage of the heavy machinery present in the pumping station, known as the &#8220;Cathedral of Sewage&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" risograph-printed programme featuring the performing musicians&#8217; and artists&#8217; responses to the theme of purification alongside questions for the audience to reflect upon throughout the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hyperpresence Jam\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a_XqETiD1c8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong><em>Hyperpresence Jam<\/em><\/strong> centres Jackie\u2019s and Chloe\u2019s dialogical process of improvisation. Chloe uses Japanese suminagashi marbling to respond to Jackie\u2019s vibraphone melodies and vice versa. The artists watch and listen, adapting to one another in real time. They invite the audience to reflect on their own cross-sensory experience of eating miso soup whilst immersed in the swirling sights and sounds. <em>Can colours and sounds alter the taste of miso soup? <\/em>The slow, measured vibe echoes ancient ceremonies and invites you to reset and savour a shared creative space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"COMMUNION\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qwGlpBJQ6l8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Communion <\/em>rehearsal footage<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong><em>Communion<\/em><\/strong> is inspired by ecclesiastical architecture and the role of the physical senses in dematerialised life taking place in digitised spheres. Chloe uses the processes of Turkish paper marbling to play with the awe-inducing effects of stained glass windows while Jackie leans into the signatures of churchcore melodies and rhythms. Using video-mixing software to mix live visuals from the marbling tank with the iconography of the stained glass windows and live looping to moderate the sound, we&#8217;re seeking to bring together the digital sphere with the sensory experience of live performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"WATER RIPPLE SWAN GATE rehearsal shorts\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/M93uWe4Ylcg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Water Ripple Swan Gate<\/em> rehearsal footage<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong><em>Water Ripple Swan Gate<\/em><\/strong> is a live performance and track inspired by footage of water rippling in the waterways of Thamesmead. The abrupt return from lockdown in the spring of 2021 felt as harsh as the spring sun beaming through the bare trees.
